We sometimes think of giving as a monetary concept, and perhaps to a lesser extent, in terms of kind such as food, clothing and the like. But, as I sought the Lord on Luke 6:38, He revealed that giving is so much more. Luke 6:38 speaks to the principle of giving. It underscores the reward and reciprocation that is tied to giving, regardless of what we give. Simply put, we will reap as much as we sow.
The question that then jumped out at me was, “what are we giving?” I heard the Lord say “I expect you all to give consistently and in your giving, you must also give love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. You must also give forgiveness, faith, hope, service and humility. Give too of your knowledge, understanding, and wisdom including thoughts that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. Give of your talents, gifts, time, and worship. Because giving is not just about cash and things. It is also about your character; replicating me (Christ) in how you are, think, and do. And it is about you using everything that I’ve placed in you to take dominion of the earth, for the good of others and my name’s sake.
Let us pray:
Father thank you for your word. Thank you for really explaining to us what is involved in giving. We repent for falling short in our giving. We’re so happy that despite our shortcomings you still love us and would want to help us to grow in this area. So Daddy help us to grow. Transform us so that we can become true givers. Show us the areas in our lives where we don’t give or don’t give healthily, sufficiently. Daddy help us to be unwavering in our giving.
Help us to become givers that truly honor your nature. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
